An easy first route, nothing to plan. Morning: up Mount Minoh (箕面山) to Minoh Otaki (箕面大滝), one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. Park at Times Otakiue (タイムズ大滝上駐車場, ex-Dainichi 大日駐車場), then 10 minutes of forest track to the falls. One bend on, Katsuoji (勝尾寺): a hillside of katsuun (勝運) daruma to wish on. Afternoon: THE FARM UNIVERSAL OSAKA — plant gardens, lunch at Farmer's Kitchen, petting zoo, BBQ, pets welcome. Back at base before dusk, about 2.5 hours' driving. Ideal for a first campervan run.

The Shigi-Ikoma Skyline (信貴生駒スカイライン) rides the ridge of Mount Ikoma (生駒山); each stop — Jusan Pass (十三峠), the Kane no Naru lookout (鐘の鳴る展望台), 600m lot (海抜600m駐車場) — opens onto the Osaka plain and Nara basin. At the 642m summit, Ikoma Sanjo park (生駒山上遊園地) suits even a 0-year-old; below, Hozanji (宝山寺), one of Japan's three great Shoten (聖天). Under 3 hours' driving; off the mountain at dusk, back at base. Cross the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge (明石海峡大橋) and you're somewhere else entirely: the flower fields of Hana-sajiki (花さじき), the west-coast road, and an evening at Goshiki-hama (五色浜) watching the sun drop into the Seto Inland Sea before you turn in. Day two heads south to Uzushio (うずしお) for the Naruto whirlpools (鳴門渦潮), then seafood at Fukura (福良) and an unhurried drive back to Osaka. From Miyazu (宮津) and Amanohashidate (天橋立) the road follows the water into Ine (伊根) to see the funaya (舟屋) boathouses, and the first night is spent on the Sea of Japan shore in Tango (丹後). Day two moves on to Kinosaki Onsen (城崎温泉): a yukata, the seven sotoyu (外湯) bathhouses, the campervan parked right at the mouth of the onsen street. The last day is sarasoba (皿蕎麦) in the castle town of Izushi (出石城下町), then the Tajima (但馬) mountain roads home.
